The leadership of the country laid flowers on Friday, February 14, at the bust of Grigore Vieru on the Alley of Classics. The late writer and poet would have turned 79 years old today, IPN reports.
President Nicolae Timofti said that he had a volume signed by Vieru on his desk and admitted that he would shed a tear whenever he read the poet, overwhelmed by emotions.
Prime Minister Iurie Leanca spoke of Grigore Vieru as an expression of the national conscience and a man who had a special contribution to the revival of national values and of the spirit of this people.
The writer died on January 18, 2009, of a heart attack 48 hours after being critically injured in a road accident.
