On February 14, when Grigore Vieru would have turned 82, the administration of the Ministry of Culture laid flowers at the bard’s bust on the Alley of Classical Writers in the central park of Chisinau “Stephan the Great and Holy”, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry says poet Grigore Vieru is known and loved at all ages. Being one of the kind, the bard knew best to define homeland, mother, language, love, childhood in verses, causing unique feelings. “The poet of the national revival created, alongside Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici, real hymns, such as “Sunrise”, “At Capriana Monastery”, “Eminescu”, “Leave us in our law”, “Tear of our language”. He wrote numerous poems for children and received the most prestigious international award in the field of literature for children – Hans Christian Andersen Award. The poet was conferred the honorific title of People’s Writer and was awarded the Order of the Republic,” says the press release.
On the poet’s day, the cultural institutions stage a number of commemorative events, including the International Festival of Poetry and Song “Grigore Vieru” at the Museum House “Grigore Vieru” in the bard’s native village.
