The children placed in social services rather than institutionalized may receive pocket money from the state. Rodica Moraru, division head at the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, has told IPN that such a mechanism is being worked out and will be implemented later.
According to the Ministry’s representative, the goal is to help these children develop money managing abilities and to avoid discrimination against them in favor of their fellows who receive money from parents.
Before the mechanism is put into practice, the Ministry will hold consultations with civil society and the competent authorities.
In Moldova there are 206 professional parent assistants and 84 family type children’s homes that look after over 600 children.
