Thirty children in situations of risk, placed in three community homes managed by the local authorities – one in Ialoveni and two in Floresti - will daily receive by 10 lei in pocket money from the state. Such a legislative initiative was put forward by the Ministry of Labor.
Contacted by IPN, head of the Ministry of Labor’s Social Assistance for Children Division Rodica Moraru-Chilimar said the pocket money will be provided to children from the age of six up to 18 during the period of stay in community homes. On their birthdays, they will receive a lump sum of 100 lei, while on such feasts as Christmas, New Year (January 1), Easter and the International Day for Protection of Children (June 1) – by 70 lei. The costs amount to over 120,000 lei.
Under the legislative initiative, the community home directors are responsible for planning and releasing the money. They will also monitor how the children manage the money. The social teacher on guard will provide assistance to the children in managing the own money so that they gain abilities to plan the expenses and know what products they need and are useful. When leaving the community home, the children will take the saved money with them.
