Mihai Poalelungi has resigned as president of the Constitutional Court, as announced via a one-line note published today on the court’s website.
No reasons for the resignation were given and the CC spokesperson was not available for comment.
The recently formed government asked the CC judges to resign following a series of controversial rulings issued during June 7-9 and which were eventually reversed. The reversal effectively led to the recognition of the Parliament led by Speaker Zinaida Greceanîi and of the Maia Sandu Government.
“I call on the other judges of the Constitutional Court to follow Mihai Poalelungi’s example”, reacted President Igor Dodon.
Mihai Poalelungi was appointed to the job by the Supreme Council of Magistrates in March 2018.
