Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev is dissatisfied with the way “Teleradio-Moldova” (TRM) covers the achievements of the Government. Tarlev considers it unfair that the public is less and less informed about the “great things” that the central authorities accomplish.
“In our mass-media, they talk about everything, but much lesser about what is needed”, said the prime minister with indignation. He asked the central authorities to undertake concrete and transparent actions concerning mass-media.
Vasile Tarlev made it clear that the Government could change its strategy concerning mass-media in order to ensure an exhaustive coverage of governmental policies. This is because in Moldova only the national public broadcaster is financed by the budget, whereas in other countries the governments behold other mass-media institutions as well.
According to the prime minister, an agreement has already passed with the president of “Teleradio-Moldova” Valentin Todercan to draft a cooperation agreement which would stipulate exactly what the radio and the public television should broadcast about the government.
Vasile Tarlev asked the Ministry of Informational Technology and the Ministry of Culture to analyse the created situation through the eyes of modern European practices and to propose solutions for promoting in mass-media the national programmes of the country’s development.
A couple of media and human rights NGOs, which monitor the implementation of the new legislation on audiovisual, have recently stated that the editorial policy of the public broadcaster, especially newscasts, don’t correspond to the Audiovisual Code.
