Prime Minister Ion Chicu admitted that salary arrears in the case of public sector employees can yet exist, but not because three is a “gap” in the budget, as some analysts say. It is a problem resulting from the poor organization of the activity of institutions. After a meeting of the senior state officials on February 3, Premier Chicu told the press that discipline at institutions should be improved and ministers should be fired or penalized, IPN reports.
According to Ion Chicu, the amounts collected into the national public budget last month are by about 600 million lei higher than in January 2019. The balance at end-January was 4.62 billion lei. “There are no problems related to financing,” stated the Premier.
He noted that there are two-three budget-funded institutions where the employees weren’t remunerated for December, but it happens through the fault of accountants who probably presented the payment order with delay.
Ion Chicu said the payment of salaries will be monitored by a mechanism similar to the one used in the case of prices. This will be launched in February. “If it is determined that the salary is usually paid on the date of 10 of the month, but the account does not present the payment order by the date of 15, the institution will be requested to prove explanations,” he stated.
