The Government understands the difficulties faced by multiple farmers due to the severe drought, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry collects and verifies the information based on the received requests, said Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who intends to invite representatives of the agricultural sector for discussions on Tuesday.
“The Government and farmers have a common mission in the coming period: to help those most affected by the drought, with consideration to the real possibilities of the state budget. As much help as we would like to offer, we have to take into account the existing budget. Only such an approach - a wise one - can to lead to solutions to truly help farmers”, said Recean.
On Tuesday, farmers in the south of Moldova requested a meeting with President Maia Sandu and Speaker Igor Grosu to discuss an action plan for rescuing the agricultural sector. A petition to this effect was signed by about 60 farmers who complain of being “on the verge of bankruptcy”.
