Prime Minister Dorin Recean promised that the consumers will pay less for gas the next heating season. He responded this way when he was asked if a decline in the gas rates for consumers in Moldova is possible now that the prices on international natural gas markets decreased considerably, IPN reports.

“The Government is preoccupied with the price of electrical energy. We took a first step and decreased the electricity charges. The Cabinet also works to reduce the gas rates at the next stage, within several months,” stated the official.

According to him, both Cabinet members and representatives of SA Energocom traveled to Romania, to Greece to explore all the possibilities of purchasing natural gas at lower prices. Decreases in the gas rates are projected. “I can assure you that we will enter the new season with lower rates,” noted Dorin Recean.

As from last October, the population has paid almost 30 lei per cubic meter of natural gas. Then, the National Agency for Energy Regulation approved a rate of 27,103 lei per 1,000 m3, plus 8% VAT. SA Moldovagaz has invoked the rise in the purchase price of natural gas since last June until now.
