The Government will help the Balti City Hall to clean the streets and dispose of the trash that has been accumulating in the city for several days. Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked for help from several institutions, including the Chisinau City Hall, in order to solve the issue within the next three days.
The PM called for a special meeting this morning, December 28, to address the Balti garbage issue. The problem arose after the waste disposal company servicing the town halted its services several days ago and garbage started to accumulate on the streets.
The meeting was attended by members of the Civil Protection and Emergency Service, the Ministry of the Interior, the Chisinau City Hall, the Balti Town Hall, epidemiologists and others.
“This is not our job and duty, it’s the local authorities’ job, but we have to intervene in emergency situations. Afterwards, the local authorities have to sort things out. If we work together, we can clean this mess up, then get back to our normal routine”, said Filip.
Several institutions will provide the equipment and staff necessary to solve the problem. The cost of the operation will be covered by the government’s reserve fund.
