The people need the press to inform them correctly and objectively and to contribute to consolidating society, not to inform them speculatively and to contribute to split. In a video interview given to IPN News Agency, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said he wants the press in Moldova to be free and objective.
Ion Chicu said he is personally open to the press and accepts any invitation to take part in programs. A similar recommendation was made to the Cabinet members. “This is the first step towards having free press that has access to information of interest and that can disseminate the given information,” stated the official.
Premier Chicu expressed his regret at the fact that there is still biased press that promotes the interests of political parties or of other countries. “We should all ensure advancement, the Government, the authorities, the mass media. Society will then appreciate us all,” he stated.
The Premier admitted that there are problems in the media sector and difficulties as regards financing and access to the advertising market. But the problems should be discussed and solved, not speculated about. “The Government is fully ready to cooperate with the press and I think our actions only prove this,” stated the official.
The interview “Prime Minister Ion Chicu’s view about the state of affairs in Moldovan society at the intersection of years” forms part of the series. “Crossroads of years through the angle of the ideal of living better at home” that also involves President Igor Dodon and the leaders of the main parliamentary parties Andrei Năstase, Pavel Fillip and Maia Sandu.
