Prime Minister Ion Chicu made a call for active and constructive participation in the process of discussing and finalizing the draft law on the justice sector reform. “We invite the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary political parties, representatives of civil society and professionals from the justice sector, all those interested, to take part in this process and to provide the necessary assistance in reforming justice in the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Premier.

In a posting on Facebook, which is quoted by IPN, Premier Chicu says that as a result of discussions with the group of experts of the Council of Europe, who came to assist Moldova in the reformation of the justice sector, it was concluded that the adoption of such a basic reform necessitates the broad involvement of the whole society, not only of the Government and Parliament.

The official considers the justice sector reform bill should be debated with civil society, professionals working in the system and all the political forces of the country, both those from the government and those from the opposition. “Even the most perfect justice sector reform document will not have many chances of being successful if the reform process is not inclusive and is not supported by the responsible political forces and civil society,” he stated.

Ion Chicu noted that he would welcome the participation in the process of all Moldova’s development partners, in particular of representatives of the EU and the U.S.

The Ministry of Justice, as from next week, will stage consultations on the draft strategy. “The justice sector reform is an absolute necessity for our country and also the biggest challenge faced by the current government. Personally, I see no chance of improving things in the Republic of Moldova if we do not manage to bring the disorder in the justice sector, prosecution service, economic police and other state bodies to an end,” also wrote Premier Chicu.
