The announcement made by acting minister of justice Vladimir Cebotari about the lack of reasons for terminating the contract for leasing the Chisinau International Airport shows once again that justice serves the clientele and group interests that are represented by the ruling parties, considers the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR). In a news conference, representatives of the party stated their opinions about the decision of the working group created by the Government to identify possibilities of terminating the lease, IPN reports.

The party’s leader Ion Hadarca said the minister showed his incompetence and revealed the pursued interests by his speech on the issue. “We consider that particular forces from the area of the Kremlin are behind this very serious issue, which is identical to the ‘theft of the century’. Their goal is to hide the truth,” he stated.

PLR deputy head Tatiana Potang said that by his announcement, Vladimir Cebotari, who was fielded for the post by the PDM, pointed the finger at the PLDM with the intention of blackmailing it. “We are indignant at the attitude of the minister of justice as it’s not clear which of the sides he represents – the Government or the lessee. The minister also pointed the finger at the Government when he said that it is vulnerable and should not be involved in lawsuits and should behave well towards the lessee,” she stated, adding that they consider attempts are being made to obstruct justice given that the announcement was made one day before the Chisinau Appeals Court’s hearing on the leasing of the airport.

“We call on the Supreme Council of Magistrates to examine the statements made by the minister of justice so as to see if this didn’t interfere in justice,” said Valeriu Saharneanu, a member of the PLR’s political bureau.

On November 10, the minister of justice said there are now no reasons to terminate the contract for leasing the Chisinau International Airport. The working group set up to examine the situation to see if there are reasons to end the contract compiled a report with conclusions and recommendations for the Government.  The group’s head Vladimir Cebotari said they identified a series of points that make the Government vulnerable in relation to the lessee and these should be removed.

A year ago, the PLR challenged the Government’s decision to lease out the Chisinau International Airport in court. The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court.
