The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) welcomes the official decision to abolish the visa regime for Moldovans by this May. The proposal is contained in the report on the abolition of the visa requirements for Moldovans, which was presented to the European Parliament, IPN reports.
In a communiqué, the PLDM says that Moldova is the only Eastern Partnership country that has fulfilled all the conditions required for enjoying a liberalized visa regime. The party’s leader Vlad Filat described the proposal to abolish the visa regime as recognition of the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities over the last three years in the process of coming closer to the European Union. He said the realization of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan included the implementation of sensitive, but important reforms.
Vlad Filat expressed his conviction that the document will obtain the necessary number of votes and the European Parliament will soon vote in favor of the abolition of the visa requirements.
The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament on January 9 examined the report on the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans, presented by MEP Tanja Fajon. The Committee will provide an answer in February, while the final vote will be given in the European Parliament before the European parliamentary elections.
