The Labor Party is against the Liberal Democratic Party's initiative to amend the Electoral Code and shorten the election campaign from 60 days to 30 days, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the party's president Gheorghe Sima, this amendment is useless. Moreover, it will lead to multiple illegalities and confusion. Sima said this initiative can be regarded as an attack on democracy as the people will not be adequately informed if the election campaign is curtailed and they will be unable to make a correct choice. This project will inevitably lead to violations and will hinder the process of organizing the elections, the leader of the Labor Party considers.
“We wonder why the PLDM resorted to such a move. They do not want to answer for a number of antisocial actions taken by the Government, including the reduction in pensions and salaries, the increase in the prices of public utilities and food products, the closure of a number of schools and kindergartens,” Gheorghe Sima said.
The Labor Party did not take part in the April 5 and July 29 legislative elections. It registered as a participant in the campaign for the September 5 constitutional referendum and will campaign in favor of the plebiscite.
