The success of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) in the July 29 elections is due to the fact that the party put its team in the spotlight and was able to persuade the electorate that it will keep the promises made during the electoral campaign, considers political analyst Petru Bogatu, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The PLDM knew how to promote its people and to show that they are young, intelligent and have abilities to make changes. It is Vlad Filat’s merit as he was not afraid to remain in the shadow of these personalities. Filat showed that he is not afraid of competition and this increased his popular approval rating,” Petru Bogatu said.
The PLDM is the only party that did not identify itself strictly with its leader, unlike the PL, which resolutely promoted Dorin Chirtoaca, the AMN — Serafim Urecheanu, the PD — Marian Lupu, or the PCRM — Vladimir Voronin.
As to the Moldova Noastra Alliance, Petru Bogatu said that a part of its voters went to the other Liberal parties, the PLDM and PL, because it is an old political force. “The AMN lost a part of the votes owing to incertitude as well. Many voters were afraid that the AMN will not pass the election threshold and chose the PLDM or the PL so as to be sure that their votes against the Communists count,” Petru Bogatu considers.
Another opinion leader, Nicolae Negru, said that it is hard to say why the rise in the votes for the PL was so insignificant. He supposed that this party, which includes many popular figures, did not know how to call attention to them, Dorin Chirtoaca being the only engine of the party. Negru also said that many politicians in Moldova have an old, Soviet mentality. Even the PPCD leaders, who have a golden age for politicians, show their Soviet mentality by their arrogant behavior.
In the July 29 elections, the PLDM gained 16.57% of the vote, as against 12.43% in the April 5 elections. The PL polled 14.68% of the ballot (13.13% on April 5), while the AMN — 7.35% (9.77%).
