The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) is in favor of a bicameral Supreme Council of Magistrates that would exclude the Prosecutor General from political negotiations, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a program on the public TV channel Moldova 1, Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said it is not a new mechanism as it has been implemented successfully in a number of countries. The institution will be created as a result of the misunderstandings that arouse following comments on the performance of the Prosecutor General's Office. Thus, a new chamber composed of persecutors will be set up at the Supreme Council of Magistrates. It will choose the Prosecutor General. Alexandru Tanase stressed that Moldova needs an independent Prosecutor General's Office that will investigate all the offenses, no matter who committed them – ministers, MPs, rich or poor persons. “This is an overdue reform promised by Moldova to the Council of Europe, which continues to monitor how we reorganize the Prosecutor's Office. This means that after the elections, the creation of this structure will be a priority for the political class that will govern Moldova,” the minister said.
