PLDM and PDM regret that a parliamentary majority hasn't been formed before the inaugural meeting of the new Parliament on December 29. However, they hope that the coalition will be announced before the the next meeting on January 12-13, IPN reports.

“It's regrettable that today, at the inaugural meeting of the newly-elected Legislative, we don't have a parliamentary majority and can't elect the Parliament's working bodies. More important than this sad conclusion is that we'll continue to negotiate the formation of the majority so that over the next 4 years we will able to govern in a stable and efficient manner”, said Vlad Filat, head of PLDM. He reiterated that PLDM is negotiating only with PDM and PL, but stressed the importance of collaborating with the opposition.

PDM vice-president Dumitru Diacov seconded Filat's position and lamented the lack of clarity regarding the coalition and the Cabinet. Diacov said that the Democrats are flexible in the negotiations and don't propose complicated formulas. “We have to solve the issue of the parliamentary coalition and that of the Executive. I think that the election of the President shouldn't be part of these negotiations. It just complicates things”, explained Diacov.

He added that the talks are prolonged because of the Liberals who come up with various intricate formulas. “I'd advise the Liberals to be more constructive”, said Diacov. According to him, the parliamentary majority should consist of PLDM, PDM and PL. If the Liberals decide to move to opposition, then another solution for the negotiations will be found.

The inaugural meeting of the Parliament took place on Monday, December 29.
