The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will not form part of the parliamentary majority that intends to install a new Government and will join the opposition. Such a decision was taken in the January 16 meeting of the party’s National Political Council, IPN reports.
The party’s acting chairman Valeriu Strelet said after the meeting that the Council condemned the methods by which the current parliamentary coalition was formed as the political results are replaced by such majorities created based on pressure and corruption.
The Council also asked that the Lib-Dems who subscribed to the statement of the parliamentary majority that fielded Democrat Pavel Filip for premiership should withdraw their signatures. If these do not do it, they will have this on their conscience and, most probably, they will no longer form part of the party, stated the acting chairman.
Another decision taken by the Council was to convene the PLDM’s Extraordinary Congress on March 20. Valeriu Strelet said that meanwhile they will carry out an internal party assessment, will ensure a filtering out and will not accept immoral persons as members of the PLDM.
The Liberal Democratic Party earlier insisted that it has the right to suggest a candidate for Prime Minister. Afterward, the Democrats, Liberals and 14 former Communists formed a parliamentary alliance and seven Lib-Dems joined this. Though a day ago it was said that one MP of the PLDM withdrew from the coalition, now Valeriu Strelet said ‘the seven MPs’ are requested to annul the signatures they put on the statement on the formation of the alliance.
