The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) expresses its readiness to have a dialogue with all the pro-European opposition and extraparliamentary parties so as to identify the method of taking part in the presidential elections and to prevent manipulation and vote rigging. Such a decision was taken in a meeting of the National Political Council of the PLDM on March 26, IPN reports.
According to the statement adopted by the Council, the sociopolitical situation in Moldova shows that the current government uses the European integration as a motive for strengthening its power in an illegal and nondemocratic way. “The PLDM remains consistent in its commitment not to allow the pro-European rhetoric of the power to be used for establishing an illegitimate government and for holding presidential elections in nondemocratic conditions,” reads the statement.
It also says that the concentration of the mass media, justice, the state institutions into one pole and the use of corrupt principles and blackmail endanger the holding of the presidential elections in a free and correct manner. “We consider that the political parties, civil society and international institutions must urgently joint forces to change the current situation and not to allow the ruling interest group to control these elections. We think it is imperative to hold the presidential elections within short timeframes, in accordance with the law. The delay in holding the presidential election endangers the free and fair character of the elections,” reads the document.
The PLDM also condemns such behavior by the government, which shows nothing but wish to defend the interest groups and to keep the independent institutions and justice under control.
The members of the PLDM consider the direct election of the head of state can be a start for returning the power to the people.
