The PLDM said the decision to join the opposition in Parliament, taken in the meeting of the party’s National Political Council held last weekend, is statutory and was adopted in accordance with the party democracy principles. The reaction comes after four Liberal-Democratic MPs of the 19th legislature, who are members of the party’s National Political Council, stated that the Council’s decision was influenced, IPN reports.

In a press release, the PLDM says two draft decisions were put to the vote as a result of debates - the MPs who subscribed to the statement on the formation of the majority will publicly withdraw their signatures, while the whole parliamentary group of the PLDM will take part in negotiations to promote reforms in the future Government, and the PLDM will not take part in negotiations within the formalized majority and will become an opposition parliamentary party.

According to the PLDM, of the attending 136 members of the National Political Council with the right to vote, 34 voted for the first draft decision, while 73 for the second. The others abstained.

“Thus, it is not true that the decision was somehow influenced. On the contrary, the decision of the National Political Council of the PLDM is perfectly statutory and was adopted in accordance with authentic party democracy principles. Those who want to manipulate and misinform the people and party members want to remain in power at all costs, even with the cost of betrayal,” it is said in the press release.
