The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) finds that the Communists Party (PCRM) continue the policy of splitting society on political and ethnic principles. “During 8 years, the Voronin regime divided society into 'patriots' and 'traitors', into 'statalists' and 'unionists',” Iurie Leanca, number 10 on the PLDM's list, told a news conference on July 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Destabilizing the social-political situation and unveiling 'the internal and external enemies' have pursued to turn the citizens' attention away from the severe social-economic problems and from the failure of the Communist rule”, the Liberal-Democratic candidate said. “Realizing the failure expecting them at the snap elections, the Communists are desperate and continue to strain the the inter-ethnic relations, setting themselves as defenders of the national minorities. Moreover, the Voronin regime tries to make hysterical the citizens by launching monstrous scenarios about the danger soaring over Moldova's statehood. This cynical and irresponsible policy inevitably conducts to worsening the political climate in the country and to spreading feelings of fear of and mistrust in one's future,” reads a communique issued by the PLDM. Referring to the PCRM's statements that the Liberal parties would stand against Moldova's statehood, the candidate on position 25 on the PLDM's list for Parliament, journalist Dumitru Ciubasenco called them: “scarecrows with which the Communists scare the ethnic minorities.” “Moldova cannot lose its statehood than through a referendum to be also attended by the inhabitants from beyond the Nistru,” Dumitru Ciubasenco said. “There are about 25-30 per cent of supporters of the right-wing, of which 8-12% are right-wing radicals, who salute the methods which are against the Moldovan statehood and from whom we hear that Chisinau needs no Parliament, no Presidency, because all those are in Bucharest," said Communist Vadim Misin on June 29. “Despite its pro-European statements, the Communists Party steadily promotes a policy of segregating the minorities, what prevents their integration into society. The practices promoted by the Communist majority from the Parliament regarding the ethnic minorities run counter the principles and the recommendations in this area promoted by the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the European Union and do not contribute to preserve the identity of minorities, but lead to their continuous disnationalization,” reads the PLDM's statement.
