The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Tuesday submitted a legislative initiative to the Parliament’s Standing Bureau, asking that a parliamentary commission be set up to assess and amend the Election Code so as to guarantee that the early elections are conducted in a free and fair manner, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat told a news conference that some of the stipulations of the Election Code can be interpreted in different ways so that one could get advantages and a better election result. According to the PLDM, anti-crisis measures should be taken before announcing the date of the early elections. Such measures are needed in order not to allow the Government to continue working as an electoral staff of the PCRM during the election period as it should manage the public affairs in a really difficult situation for Moldova, Vlad Filat said. The PLDM wants that the date of the elections is fixed by political consensus so as to avoid a low turnout and the invalidation of elections. The Liberal-Democrats say that the outgoing President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin could arrange that the early elections take place at the end of June.
