The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) is subjected to unjustified financial checkups, claims party leader Vlad Filat. He told a news conference on Tuesday that such actions on the part of the state control bodies are “rampancy and involvement of these institutions into the political process,” Info-Prim Neo reports.
“It's worrisome that such controls intensified especially after the elections, non-governmental organizations and media are also subjected to checkups,” Vlad Filat specified.
He calls the verification of the PLDM “an attempt to exert pressure against the ones thinking otherwise than the Communists do”. He says initially the checkup was to start on Tuesday in the morning, but it was postponed for the next day. “They are probably very much alarmed with our statements of these days. Such verifications are carried out, as a rule, once in three years, and the PLDM was subjected to such a verification a year ago,” Vlad Filat says.
When asked how the checking bodies explain their action, Vlad Filat has said “in Moldova, the state institutions never reason their actions, especially if those are illegal.”
Filat says he will ask the Finance Ministry for an explanation about how many political parties have been subjected to such verifications recently, which are they, and especially how many verifications have been carried out on the PCRM. “I will ask for a thorough verification of this party during the period from 2001 to 2009,” Filat added.
