The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) describes the treatment to which the ex-leader of the party Vlad Filat is subject as public execution. The Lib-Dems call on all the specialized international organizations to take attitude to this and to the hurry in which his case is being tried, IPN reports.

“What happened today at the Buiucani Court is a demonstration of the violation of the basic human rights. In no country with a democratic regime and equitable justice do the representatives of the rule of law institutions have such a degrading behavior. Neither the state of health of MP Vlad Filat, who has been on hunger strike for 20 days, nor the request to allow doctors to examine him and the numerous calls, including by civil society, to make the hearings public are taken into account,” it is said in a press release of the PLDM.

This also says that the cynicism of this trial resides not only in the fact that minimum openness and equality is not ensured, but also in the fact that the inhuman and degrading treatment to which Vlad Filat is subject is tried to being camouflaged. All these show that the final goal of the trial is to make the MP to keep silent and to sacrifice the ‘scapegoat’.

Vlad Filat was arrested last October on charges of influence peddling and passive corruption. He pleads not guilty. The June 21 hearing was adjourned after the former Premier complained about weakness, while the defense asked that their client should be seen by a doctor.
