The sand in many kindergarten playgrounds in Chisinau is full of parasite worms and their larvae. The statement was made by the Public Health Center (CSP) in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a CSP press release, soil and sand samples have been collected from 36 kindergartens this year. 36% were found to contain eggs of helminthes Toxocara Canis, also known as dog roundworms. Toxocariasis is a parasitical disease caused by infestation with larvae from pets like dogs and cats. It mostly occurs in children aged 2-5. In order to prevent infestation, specialists recommend parents to educate their children to respect personal hygiene and to wash their hands after playing in the sand, with dogs or cats, after going to toilet and before meals. Trimming nails regularly and washing vegetables and fruits before refrigeration and consumption are also recommended. For pre-school institutions the recommendations include daily disinfection of sand, forbidding of animals on the kindergarten territory and covering of sand at night.
