The absurdity of political and social developments in Moldova was staged at the Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Theater in Cahul. The play "Herghelia", directed by Gheorghe Mandru, had its second premiere on July 4, reports IPN.
Director told IPN that the "Herghelia" in fact shows the everyday absurdity of Moldova. "The minimum consumption basket in the Republic of Moldova is about 4000 lei and the pension is 700 lei. It is absurd. A pensioner would die after a week if he had to survive only on this money," Gheorghe Mandru explained.
"It is a play about courage, about uprightness and national pride," added the director. It’s the first time that the Treater tries this genre.
"The author is a playwright from Petroşani, Valeriu Butulescu, who collaborated before with the theater for the play Women's Island”, mentioned Gheorghe Mandru.
”Herghelia” follows the quest for identity and independence of two characters that sprung out of the atutors’ imagination and right on his desktop. The characters’ rebellion against the author finally fails. As the author is conceptually killed by the rebellious characters, their existence also vanishes in the end.
The play is in fact a symbol of a reality where political and social figures lose control over people and are punished if they don’t act correctly, says the director.
The show will be played also at the Nottara Theater in Bucharest.
