The Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” on January 12 will mount a demonstration to encourage President Nicolae Timofti not to yield to the pressure of an interest group and nominate a candidate for Prime Minister affiliated to the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, secretary of the Great National Assembly Council Chiril Motpan has told IPN.
Chiril Motpan said the event will take place at the State Residence starting at 8am. It is expected to involve hundreds of Nistru war veterans and ordinary people. In a news conference at 10am, members of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” will make public their future steps.
The Council’s secretary also said that the event will be peaceful and the participants will demand that the head of state should nominate an acceptable person supported by the people as Prime Minister. “It is inadmissible for a whole country to be at the beck and call of an interest group. The people have the right to a government that will represent them. But when the people endure, the politicians continue to steal and the ordinary people pay for this,” stated Chiril Motpan.
He added that by the staged protests, the members of the Platform oppose the danger of oligarch Plahotniuc gaining full control. The Platform will keep the flame of protests burning in Moldova.
In the evening of January 11, President Nicolae Timofti will have new consultations with the parliamentary groups of the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, the Liberal Party PL and the unaffiliated MPs with the aim of designating a new candidate for premiership. Chiril Motpan said that even if the head of state is obliged today to nominate a candidate, the planned event will take place.
