The representatives of the Council of Europe Office in Moldova are concerned about the lack of reaction on the part of the authorities to the continuous protests mounted in the Great National Assembly Square since September 6, the leaders of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, which organized the nonstop protests, said in a news conference. According to them, the Council of Europe expressed its concern about the absence of reforms in the country in a meeting with protesters’ leaders on September 23, IPN reports.

The leaders said the representatives of the Council of Europe Office expressed their concern about the lack of reaction on the part of the authorities to protesters’ demands. “The Office’s Head Jose-Luis Herrero is a staunch supporter of the protesters. The representatives of the Council of Europe are on our side, on the side of those who realize that we reached a catastrophic state. This international organization expressed its readiness to have direct contact with the protesters. The members of the Office in Chisinau said there is the possibility of going also to the Council’s head office in Strasbourg,” stated Valentin Dolganiuc, deputy head of the Council of the Great National Assembly.

Protesters’ leaders said they also had an informal meeting with the IMF representatives in Moldova. “The representatives of the IMF are dissatisfied because they are ignored by the authorities and consider the fact that the National Bank governor tendered his resignation while they IMF mission was on the way to Chisinau represents disrespect,” stated Dolganiuc.

The members of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” announced that they will continue to have meetings with the people in the country’s districts. On September 26 and 27, they will travel to Straseni, Cimislia, Falesti, Criuleni, Calarasi, Ungheni, and Balti.
