The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) withdrew the urbanistic plan for systematizing the Central Market from the agenda of Friday's meeting as it is to be examined in public debates for two weeks first, Info-Prim Neo reports. The plan aroused contradictory discussions among the municipal councilors as it covers the land adjoining the area designed for the reconstruction of the Central Market. According to councilors, this allows other companies operating in the area to apply for construction authorizations. Christian-Democrat councilman Alexandru Corduneanu said they should receive approval from the National Council for Monuments as the Central Market is located in the historical center of the capital city. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu replied that no building in the area is an architectural monument and the beneficiary of the given project will compensate for the demolition of constructions there. Unaffiliated councilor Oleg Cernei believes the Constructions Division not the Central Market should be the beneficiary of the project, as the latter may pursue certain interests. 3.2 hectares of the market's territory are municipal property, while another 1.5 hectares are in private ownership. Under the strategy for modernizing the Central Market, three-story shopping centers will be built at the entrance from the streets Tighina and Armeneasca. The Central Bus Terminal is to be relocated. There will be erected a parking garage with 1,400 places and an underground garage with 850 places. There are 41 markets in Chisinau.
