The Cabinet agreed a plan of action to reduce ill-treatment, abuses and discrimination against persons in police custody for 2017-2020, IPN reports.

According to the plan, there will be renovated at least 15 remand units of local police stations and about 100 cells, while over 200 police employees will be trained in human rights observance. At least 25 special units of transport will be purchased to transport persons in police custody.

The local police stations will implement the “e-Arrest” model to improve the monitoring of persons while these are in police custody.

The plan will be implemented at a cost of about 49.2 million lei. Over 85% of the sum will be covered with financial resources allocated by the European Union.
