First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc had a work meeting with a group of American journalists. On this occasion, they discussed about the political situation in Moldova and the role of mass media in a democracy, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Parliament’s press service.
The First Deputy Speaker confirmed Moldova’s commitment to the undergoing processes of reform. “Our main preoccupation is to accelerate the reforms, to modernize state institutions. It is a very difficult, yet necessary project”, he declared.
As concerns mass media, Vlad Plahotniuc highlighted the number of televisions that appeared over the last two years, a period during which mass media developed and diversified rapidly.
In turn, the American journalists appreciated Moldova’s efforts towards democratic development and announced their willingness to organize trainings for Moldovan experts.
At the end of the meeting , Vlad Plahotniuc expressed his confidence that such meetings would continue in a more working format. “Considering the vital role of mass media in a democracy, especially in Moldova, I propose to start here the collaboration between the two states: by continuing meetings in a working format, with the participation of American experts in mass media, who would offer consultancy to specialists in Chisinau”, said Plahotniuc.
The American delegation included John Siniff, op-ed editor at the most read American newspaper USA Today, Steve Smith, journalist with over 35 years of experience at local and national channels in the U.S., Lee B. Becker, director of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research, and Tudor Vlad, associate director at the same center.
