The Liberal Party (PL) will ask the Constitutional Court (CC) to pronounce on the constitutionality of the law on the joint electoral system that was passed in the final reading last week, the party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu announced in a news conference on April 22, IPN reports.
“This law is unconstitutional. The people in the country will be able to vote both according to party lists and to uninominal lists, while those from abroad only based on party lists,” said Mihai Ghimpu. He added that if the CC rules that the law is constitutional, the PL will comply.
PL deputy chairwoman Corina Fusu said that in the next sitting of Parliament, they will demand recounting the votes in favor of this law. According to her, the law wasn’t passed by 63 votes as announced, but by fewer votes.
The law on the joint electoral system says that half of the MPs will be elected based on party lists, while the other half directly, in uninominal constituencies. The country’s territory will be divided into 50 constituencies and each of them will elect by a lawmaker. The Transnistrians and the Moldovans who are abroad will vote only in the national constituency.
