The National Council of the Liberal Party (PL) that convened on December 28 decided that the party will take part in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. As a result of a call to all the unionists to join around the PL that was made by the party’s leader Dorin Chirtoacă, a number of unionist organizations, including ODIP and People’s Council – 2, decided to support the PL and will compete in the elections together with it, IPN reports.

In a posting on the PL’s Facebook page, it is said that Dorin Chirtoacă had discussions with the leaders of the National Liberal Party, the Liberal Reformist Party, the Ecologist Green Party and the Party “Democracy at Home” and of unionist organizations. Consequently, the Liberal Party expresses its openness and banks on the unification of the unionist current as the unionist vote can succeed in elections only if the forces are combined.

Earlier, the PL had negotiations with the electoral bloc ACUM DA PAS, but these failed. The president of the PL Dorin Chirtoacă accused ACUM of excluding the Liberal Party from the bloc before accepting it, saying it became evident that the bloc abides by the own rules, does not respect meritocracy, destroys the unity of the opposition and torpedoes the efforts to remove the Plahotniuc-Dodon regime.
