An administrative case was started against Minister of Education Maia Sandu because she made an order to collect personal data of students. The information was made public by the administration of the Liberal Party, which demands that the minister should be dismissed because she discredited herself. On the other hand, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca urged Maia Sandu to continue the initiated reforms, IPN reports.

Chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference that Maia Sandu signed an order to collect the personal data of students. “This was done because they are compiling an electronic register of voters and need the identification codes of the voters,” he stated.

The party’s deputy chairman Valeriu Munteanu said the Ministry of Education exceeded the legislative limits when it started to collect personal data from children. “We asked the National Personal Data Protection Center to verify the information and received an answer that the acts to collect personal data were suspended, while the minister faces administrative proceedings for not obeying decisions of the Center. We consider that somebody who fulfilled a political order and violated the fundamental human rights cannot remain in this post. We request the Prosecutor General’s Office to examine the case as we are not sure that these acts were stopped,” he stated.

On a social networking site, the Premier’s spokeswoman Liliana Vitu wrote that Iurie Leanca encourages Maia Sandu to continue the initiated changes that are so necessary for the education system of the country.
