The Government of Moldova should not recognize the mandate of the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who was name the special representative of the President of Russia for Transnistria, and should reject his visits to Moldova, including the Transnistrian region. This is the position of the Liberal Party (PL), which was stated in a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The representatives of the Liberal Party said the official title of Dmitry Rogozin shows that Russia does not regard the eastern districts as an integral part of Moldova, but as a territory that is under Russian jurisdiction. “The Liberal Party considers that the Russian President’s decision is a gesture of interference in Moldova’s internal affairs, defies its territorial integrity within the borders recognized by all the states, including Russia, and seriously affects Moldova’s sovereignty over the Transnistrian region,” reads an official statement from the party.
The party asks the Government to make the necessary approaches to the Russian authorities so as to make them reconsider the title of ‘special representative for Transnistria’ in line with the bilateral agreements and treaties signed and specify Rogozin’s powers.
Asked by the journalists, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said that the PL’ request cannot bring a surplus value. He stated that they should better underline the right of the countries involved in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict to delegate representatives to the region, who would make a greater contribution to ‘unfreezing’ this conflict.
On March 21, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin issued a decree, naming Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin as his special representative for Transnistria, responsible for the military-industrial and defense complexes. Earlier, former Russian Ambassador to Moldova Valery Kuzmin said that Dmitry Rogozin may come to Chisinau in April.
