Representatives of the Liberal Party (PL), the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) expressed their bewilderment at the Chisinau Appeals Court’s decision to uphold the ordinary court’s decision to not invalidate the mayoral elections held in Chisinau, IPN reports.

PL deputy chairman Valeriu Munteanu said that if violations committed by the candidates for mayor were identified in the first round of voting, a third round should be held with other candidates. Courts’ decisions can be named neither juridical nor political. “Regrettably, this decision will have a lot of repercussions for the Republic of Moldova. It seems to me that these are no longer political matters as we switched over to a personal era,” Valeriu Munteanu stated in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

Jurist of the Party of Socialists Fadei Nagacevschi said given that Andrei Nastase and Ion Ceban were excluded from the game for alleged violations of the electoral legislation, the Central Election Commission could ask for an explanation of the court judgments and could stage the third round of voting  with candidates who lost in the first round of voting.

PLDM deputy chairman Alexandru Bujorean said Moldova several days ago stopped to be a country with a hybrid regime and became a dictatorial country that is heading towards an autocratic regime that will probably lead to casualties. Believing that the decisions are taken at the court of law is naivety at least.

In the evening of June 21, the Chisinau Appeals Court upheld the Court of Chisinau’s decision to not validate the election of Andrei Nastase as mayor of Chisinau. While the judges were in deliberations, sympathizers of Andrei Nastase were protesting in front of the Court and of the City Hall, demanding to validate the election.
