The Liberal Party (PL) this year increased the number of women running for the post of mayor in the June 14 local elections by 10%. The PL’s women candidates for the mayoralty of settlements total 600, which is 25% of the party’s candidates for the post of mayor, Liberal MP Corina Fusu, who heads the Liberal Women’s Organization, stated for IPN within the electoral event “Mothers vote for the children’s future”.

In front of the dozens of women attending the meeting, Corina Fusu said that Moldova is now at a crossroads and the local elections of June 14 will decide the children’s future. “We want to go towards the EU, not towards Russia. I’m sure that if the women hold more executive posts, things will go better and the level of corruption will be reduced,” she stated.

According to Corina Fusu, the Liberal Women’s Organization has a sufficient number of members who can prove that good things can be done and who will improve the living conditions in the settlements in which they run. “Many say it’s not time for gender equality and for the protection of human rights. But the rule of law is based on correct thinking. We must abandon the idea that the woman is responsible for raising and educating the children,” she said.

The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said the June 14 elections are a historical event, especially because the country’s European future is in danger. “Some promised “Moldova without Voronin, Moldova without poverty”, but the country is now governed by the Communists and poverty,” he stated.

Veronica Hertsa, Liberal candidate for the post of Chisinau councilor, said the Liberal Party is the only party that didn’t betray and rob the country. During the last eight years in office, the Liberal mayor implemented important projects at a time when the budget was tight and the central authorities provided no support.
