The Liberal Party refused to take part in the negotiations on the formation of a new parliamentary majority in order to influence the Liberal Democratic Party to put forward another candidate for premiership instead of Vlad Filat, considers political commentator Alexandru Cauia, the dean of the Law Faculty of the Institute of International Relations of Moldova, The expert has told IPN that for the early legislative elections to be avoided, the PL or the PLDM should take one step backward: the Liberals should accept Vlad Filat or the PLDM should withdraw him even if he is the party’s engine and their image will be affected if the Government is not headed by Filat.

Alexandru Cauia believes that Vlad Filat can withdraw as Marian Lupu did once, when he renounced the post of head of state so that an unaffiliated candidate could be fielded. He does not exclude another scenario - an alliance between the PLDM, PDM and the unaffiliated lawmakers - but this would be a shaky scenario, to his mind.

According to the Law Faculty dean, President Nicolae Timofti may propose Vlad Filat for the post of Prime Minister as a result of the consultations he had with the political parties. “It’s not excluded that the head of state will suggest Vlad Filat once and, if he is rejected, will put forward him again. The attitude of the three leaders will then change as they will understand that the early elections are close and will thus take steps to maintain the power,” stated Alexandru Cauia.

After the Filat Government was dismissed, the components of the former Alliance for European Integration held several rounds of talks to reconstitute the parliamentary majority and agree a new Premier. The PLDM proposed Vlad Filat, but the PL insists that the Lib-Dems should suggest another person. The PDM seeks guarantees that the agreement that will be signed will not be renounced
