The Liberal Party (PL) says that it found about 20,000 irregularities after checking the electoral registers from 10 district electoral councils, which constitutes 25% of the total number of councils. The party’s president Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on Wednesday that this figure represents almost two MP seats, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, the inclusion of extra 200,000 persons in the electoral rolls is the most serious violation. The PL said that over 6,000 persons without identification papers could vote and other persons voted instead of the 1,373 dead persons included in the lists.
The PL vice president Corina Fusu said that the number of persons with the right to vote rose significantly at the present legislative elections at a time when the death rate in Moldova has increased during the last several years, while the birth rate has decreased.
The PL says that the ruling Communist Party (PCRM) fixed the elections as in 2005, when the number of persons with the right to vote rose suddenly by 50,000. The party said it submitted applications to the Chisinau Court of Appeals and the Constitutional Courts, demanding that the elections are invalidated, and evidence that the elections were rigged. The Constitutional Court will have to delay the passing of judgment on the April 5 elections until all the disputes are solved in court, Mihai Ghimpu said.
The administration of the PL considers that these proofs should make the judicial bodies in Moldova take their job seriously and fulfill their obligations, while the international organizations should review their position on how the elections were conducted in Moldova, which is a totalitarian state where there is no stable democracy,” Corina Fusu said.
The party said that the results announced by them were only the irregularities identified by the PL so that the other Opposition parties – the PLDM and AMN – could discover new violations.
