The Liberal Party (PL) asked the Central Election Commission (CEC) to extend the deadline for the submission of statements, informing about the change of address after the last elections.
At a news conference on Tuesday, the PL president Mihai Ghimpu said that few students of those that have temporary residence visa in the dormitory managed to file notifications. So, they will be deprived of the right to vote if they are at their parent’s home on April 29, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The students are written in the electoral rolls according to the place where they study. But they will go home until the end of July and will not be able to vote if they are not included in the lists there,” Ghimpu said.
He also said that not all the Moldovans that are working abroad will be able to cast their votes as the elections fall on a working day.
The PL said that they asked the Ministry of Information Development to provide them with the register of persons eligible to vote, the register of deceased persons and the register of newborns, but the institution said that they should ask for such information from the CEC.
“This answer shows that we are far from having free and fair elections in Moldova. The CEC and the Ministry of Information Development put the correctness of the coming elections in doubt,” the PL leader said.
