The Liberal Party (PL) said it will take part in the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections as part of the bloc ACUM. The decision was announced after the meeting of the party’s National Council held on December 16, IPN reports.
In a posting on Facebook, the PL said the party will take part in the parliamentary elections together with ACUM given the compromise reached in the discussions with the Party “Action and Solidarity”, the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and the Liberal Democratic Party. They agreed on five points: a common calendar, a PL member-observer at the meritocracy commission, participation on the lists of candidates and in constituencies, minutes of the meritocracy commission’s meetings, deciding of place of candidates on lists and in constituencies based on merits and people’s expectations.
The Liberal Party noted that as part of the bloc it will continue to promote the objective of reunification of the Romanian nation – the Union with Romania as the best and actually the only solution for ensuring the security and prosperity of the citizens within NATO and the EU. At the same time, until the Union with Romania is fully achieved, the Liberal Party will make common cause with the pro-European parties and will cooperate with these parties, except for those that act in collusion with the dictatorial Plahotniuc-Dodon regime.
After the announcement made by the PL, Valeriu Munteanu, who recently left the party and announced he will run in elections together with the bloc ACUM, wrote on his Facebook page that if the PL’s decision to go alongside ACUM was so ‘ardent’, it would have been taken, for example, yesterday, not today, immediately after the signing of the agreement on the legal constitution of the electoral bloc ACUM. The electoral calendar and temporal commitments of ACUM are well-known inside the PL, especially for those who took part in six rounds of dialogue that involved the four parties.
“Today’s philosophical decision of the PL, which was most probably inspired by Mister Ghimpu, is nothing but a new element (with an additional stage) of a well-thought-out plan of dissipation of the votes of the right and confusion of voters as there is an astronomic discrepancy between the statements proliferated in the public sphere by the president of honor of the PL, the president of the PL and the other leaders of the party about the bloc ACUM and its leaders and the ‘façade’ decision presented awkwardly today,” wrote Valeriu Munteanu.
