The Liberal Party (PL) says that it has discovered more than 15 vote rigging methods used in the April 5 elections. Some of the proofs were presented at a news conference on Tuesday. They will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of the municipality of Chisinau and to district prosecutor’s offices, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“In 2009, the electoral registers contained by 408,000 more persons than in the 2007 local elections. The Central Election Commission (CEC) explained that this is the number of persons born during 1990-1991 that obtained the right to vote in 2009. The statistical data show that over 90,000 persons were born in 1990, while in 1991 – about 60,000. The figure of 408,000 was included in order to obtain votes in favor of the Communist Party,” said the PL leader Mihai Ghimpu.
Another method of fixing the elections identified by the PL is multiple voting. “Checking 100 polling places in the municipality of Chisinau, we discovered 2,000 cases when the people voted two, three or even four times,” Ghimpu said.
“Through the agency of a program, we found a person that voted concomitantly at three polling places: two times in Chisinau and one time in Floresti, with the same identity card,” Ghimpu said. According to him, the multiple voting was possible in district centers and in the municipalities of Balti and Chisinau because in villages the residents know each other.
Liberal MP Oleg Bodrug said that many persons voted without identification documents, while in some of the polling stations many signatures had been falsified.
“We will appeal against every case. We will present the evidence to the prosecutor of Chisinau and then to the district prosecutors. The falsifiers should be held accountable,” Bodrug said.
Mihai Ghimpu also said that he is sure these methods will be used in the early parliamentary elections of July 29 as well. “The Opposition will have three members in the CEC and we will try to be more attentive and notice any attempt to rig the elections,” he said. “If early elections were not to take place, we would have filed the evidence to the European Court of Human Rights. But we will wait.
“The fact that the elections will take place on a working day is a great minus. The people working abroad will not be able to vote. I hope that the countries where they now live will underrated that we want to get rid of the Communists and will allow them to cast their votes,” Ghimpu said. “The Communists have never thought of the voters. They see a possibility that suits them. We will try to identify their aims,” he added.
The early legislative elections will be held on July 29, which falls on a Wednesday.
