Today we celebrate Europe Day and we celebrate peace, which means also higher living standards, through cooperation rather than through competition, the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said in a press briefing in the Great National Assembly Square, which housed the European town on May 10, IPN reports.

The ambassador said the EU offers support, but Moldova will have to ensure the continuation of essential reforms. Since last year’s holiday until now, there were done a lot of things, including the signing and implementation of the Association Agreement and the institution of the visa-free regime, which offers enormous opportunities to the people.

“We will meet again in several weeks at the Riga Summit to express again our commitment, of the EU, the partners, to develop this relationship and putting into practice essential reforms and to continue to promote our common values for stability, peace and development so that the ordinary people feel this thing in their own lives,” stated Pirkka Tapiola.

On the occasion of Europe Day, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici said this holiday is a very important one for the Moldovan people who want to form part of this community. Speaking about the reforms that must be implemented by the Moldovan authorities, the Premier said the justice sector reform and the fight against corruption are among the top priorities. “We enjoy the support of the European partners and can do this together and will make effort until we succeed,” stated Chiril Gaburici, thanking the partners that contribute to these accomplishments.

A European town was set up in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on the occasion of Europe Day on May 10. The visitors stopped at all the tents of the EU member states to taste traditional dishes, to take part in different contests and the European languages school and learned about the projects financed by the EU. The activities are organized by the EU Delegation to Moldova in cooperation with the Government of Moldova and the Chisinau City Hall.
