The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola transmitted to the Moldovans a message on the occasion of the full coming into force of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Moldova. According to the official, when this accord was signed more than two years ago, a significant result was achieved by both of the sides, IPN reports.
“Our partnership brought many considerable accomplishments in time. The Republic of Moldova was the first Eastern Partnership country that obtained the liberalization of the visa regime. In our commercial reasons, we obtained a constant and sustainable growth of the volume of trade and this underlined the EU’s role as Moldova’s most important trading partner. From the very beginning, we were aware that the signing, ratification and full coming into force of the agreement represent only a start on the road to development,” Pirkka Tapiola says in his message.
The European official noted that a lot is yet to be done to implement the necessary reforms. “There are many aspects that need an improvement and these aspects influence your daily life, such as the independence of the law enforcement agencies, the right to a fair trial, the respect for the human rights and the right to a corruption-free society,” he stated.
According to the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, if these desiderata are achieved, the partnership between Moldova and the EU will have a basis for prosperity.
