The Chisinau International Airport will open its doors on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the foundation of the Civil Aviation in Moldova. On September 19, from 9.00 to 13.00, the public is expected to an exhibition of aeronautic equipment on the airport's platform. A piloting and parachuting show will start at 9.20, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The official part of the Civil Aviation Workers' Day will begin at 14.00 on the stadium located near the airport. Contests and entertaining games will be held next. A pop music contest will start at 17.00. The festivities will end with dances and fireworks scheduled for 21.00. The last buses will leave for Chisinau and the villages of Bacioi and Tapala at 23.00.
Three national and 11 international companies operate flights to 24 destinations from the Chisinau International Airport. The number of passengers this year has risen to 600,000. In 2008, the passengers totaled 847,000 or threefold more on 2003, the airport's administration says in a communique.
A general reconstruction plan will be implemented at the airport during 2010-2011. It will include the repair and modernization of the launchpad and landing strip, the platform and the parking lot and the extension of the passenger terminal, the communique says.
