Employees of the Green Areas Association gathered piles of garbage in central Chisinau after the City’s Day. Those who celebrated Chisinau’s Day on October 14 left behind mainly plastic bottles and all kinds of packing.
The Association’s head Eliferii Haruta has told Info-Prim Neo that two teams consisting of about 40 workers cleaned the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Public Garden “Stephan the Great”. Six vehicles collected the garbage.
Employee Galina Lazar started work at 5 am. She said the center of Chisinau was full of bags, bottles and packing. During only two hours, the workers gathered four tractorloads of waste.
Another worker Mariana Bosneaga said the people want the city to be clean, but do not contribute to keeping it clean. Many persons drop litter several meters of the garbage bin.
Galina Cantar, another employee of the Green Areas Association, stated that they collected a lot of sacks with garbage. She said she never saw so many cigarette butts. “The people are not at all educated. They left trash everywhere,” she said.
The workers said they cleaned the streets and public places on City’s Day as well, but it was dirty again towards the evening.
