The phenomenon called “Transnistrian conflict” does not exist in the collective mentality of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The fact that the conflict comes last in opinion polls is a proof of this, programs director at the Institute for Public Policy Oazu Nantoi stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“For those who are in power, this phenomenon also does not exist. It is a kind of business conducted in specific conditions,” stated Oazu Nantoi.

The expert in the Transition issue noted that a very dangerous thing for Moldova’s statehood was witnessed in 2017, namely the fact that Vitaly Ignatiev, who serves as the minister of foreign affairs of the Transnistrian region, travelling through the Chisinau International Airport, made a series of visits to the European states, which means that they speak about Transnistria as a side whose position should be listened to not only in Moscow, but also in the European Union. “In other words, we can bid farewell to the unitary character of the state Republic of Moldova,” he said.

Journalist Vlad Turcanu said that even some of Moldova’s foreign partners have an approach that does not suit Moldova and in the talks in the 5+2 format often insist on matters that are dangerous for the subsequent developments in the Transnistrian settlement process. “Such attempts existed all the time because some of the parts of the West are interested in putting the Transnistrian region together with Chisinau on a register of geostrategic ideas and for a long period of time we didn’t accept something like this,” stated the journalist.
