The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), following the statements made by the suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari, said that it does not enter into polemics with culprits. “This is a normal reaction of a culprit and an investigated person whom we expect to come to court and the prosecutor’s office with evidence,” the PGO said in a comment that is quoted by IPN.
“We understand and feel sorry for the state of incapability, agony and hysteria in which he is now as he makes accusations against those who covered him while he held office. His assertions in a TV program confirmed the correctness of the decisions taken against him,” said the PGO.
In a TV program, Viorel Morari said Deputy Prosecutor General Ruslan Popov has direct contact with politicians. Moreover, the prosecutor general of Moldova is guided by the deputy prosecutor general who receives instructions from the government. “Stoianoglo is incompetent or is simply guided from behind by his superb deputy Popov,” stated Morari.
Viorel Morari was arrested on January 10 and was later charged with abuse of power, falsification of public documents and interference in the administration of justice. The case was sent to court on February 12. Also then, the PGO announced that one more criminal case was started against Viorel Morari, over unjust enrichment and money laundering in especially large amounts by using the position. Morari was released from detention and placed under judicial control for 60 days, as of February 14. Viorel Morari pleads not guilty.
