The Center for Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives requested the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to examine the legality of the acts of some of the state institutions related to the diminution of the state-owned shareholding in Banca de Economii and of the decision to concede the Chisinau International Airport.
In a news conference at IPN, the Center’s head Ion Dron said he wants to know the PGO’s stance whether launching an investigation is opportune or not. If there is no criminal act, they should tell if the existing legal framework as regards transparency and the opportunity of taking the decision not to subscribe for shares of the additional issue of Banca de Economii was respected or not.
“We also ask determining if the legislation on decisional transparency when adopting the decision and signing the contract for the concession of the Chisinau International Airport was obeyed and if there are preconditions for challenging the contract in court,” stated Ion Dron.
Acceding to him, given that some of the institutions of the executive power are involved in sales of possessions that aroused the people’s indignation and at least the bewilderment of the foreign partners, the PGO is obliged to shed light on this process.
Ion Dron considers the PGO now has the chance to show that it is reformed and is no longer politically dependent and to rehabilitate itself before the people who do not have confidence in the prosecutors. “It is a good chance to show to the European partners, before the Vilnius Summit, that the assistance offered in reforming the Prosecutor’s Office wasn’t in vain,” he said.
The head of the Center for Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives is waiting for a public answer from the PGO over the taken decision. If an investigation is not ordered, it should provide arguments why and if an investigation is launched, the results should be made public on the PGO’s website.
